It appears I don't have the roof space for 3kw net metering (12 panels) so can anyone advise me please? Is it worth installing 6 panels or, at a stretch 8 panels, on the roof (I have cash earning very little interest anyway). Besides the roof space I'm having a one storey pergola built with a tiled roof but I don't know as yet if any additional panels could be fitted to that.
I have an 8m x4m pool and I'm thinking of adding a poolbot (cos I'm a lazy sod) each if which will consume electricity. As a complete novice I would value you informed opinions.
Thank you

Re: Roof space and pv panels
There is for sure no problem the install PV modules on the roof of a pergola. Further there are modules on the market with higher efficiency which means for example 10 modules @ 300 Wp = 3 kWp net metering are enough. Common sizes for modules are 1.66 m x 0.99 m with a small gap between them. In your case you could install 8 modules on your roof and the rest on your pergola. Important is to install optimizer on each of the modules.

Thank you Max. Andi from Solartec has just visited (thanks Polemi Dave) and he thinks I will get 10 modules @ 300 Wp on the roof which will give me the 3 kWp and when my pergola is up I will probably get 3 more. Will 3 modules @ 300 kWp be sufficient to run the pool pump and pool robot do you think?
Thank you
Peter

Pool robots use very little electricity - the power supply on mine is rated at just 180W.Expresspete wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2017 5:27 pm Thank you Max. Plus, you can run the pool pump for a much shorter time so you will probably use much less electricity when you get it.

Thank you CG - now to choose the right Pool Robot (it was your post the other week that convinced me to buy one)

I managed to find it on ebay from a company in Germany - significantly cheaper (with shipping) than I could have bought it here...

Re: Roof space and pv panels
For the pool I would buy a solar pool pump and 3 modules @ 250 Wp (3 modules @ 300 Wp not necessary) and forget the small amount of electricity the pool robot is using up. The old pool pump will be your backup for rainy days if you want to clean the pool then. (mind that you get a Lorentz pump from Germany and not a cheap copy from China.)Expresspete wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2017 5:27 pm Thank you Max.
