HMRC refund

Post by Sadie »

Just in case anyone else is waiting for a refund of tax from HMRC due to the double taxation treaty, don’t hold your breath.
I sent my application in Oct last year, which was received on19th November and is still now “In the system “ and when I asked when will it be processed (given that they’ve already had it for 6 months)
I was told it’s scheduled to be looked at on 21st July
Don’t understand the delay, are ALL civil servants still working from home 🤷🏼‍♀️
If you never ask the question, the answer will always be....no

I waited 7 months for mine and had to chase them up. Eventually I received a refund a month after that and my new tax code which hadn't been changed. Contacted them again and was informed that whoever had assessed my changed status had forgotten to change my tax code to "NT" (None Taxable). 11 months it took to sort it out whereas the Cypriot tax office took 6 days at this end.
I don't know if they're incompetent or it's a government policy.
