John McDonnell is to announce plans today to heavily tax those earning over £80000.
Call me cynical, but is it coincidental that this is around £5000 above the salary level of MPs. Leaving them a little leeway for their expenses of course!

Re: Labour tax plans
He also said that this plan would not affect 95% of the population. I assume you added the 'heavily' bit to give a dramatic effect. I am not a great supporter of any UK political party but if you are going to make a statement at least give the full context.
By the way.....you're cynical.

It was actually a direct quote from a headline which I omitted to add and now can't find, maybe you'll like this one better!

Re: Labour tax plans
Depending upon one's point of view I suppose we can all find a theatrical headline to a situation one supports but that doesn't mean that one should echo the media bandwagon willy nilly. Have a little discretion.smudger wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2017 1:43 pm It was actually a direct quote from a headline which I omitted to add and now can't find, maybe you'll like this one better!

And you're still cynical.
Re: Labour tax plans
Whenever I hear Labours tax plans, or more often Labour challenging the Tories to match their tax/spending plans, it always reminds me of a story/joke my Grandfather [a slaughterman and Butcher] used to tell.
A woman walked into my shop [he said] wanting to buy some sausages.
Woman: How much are your sausages?
Grandfather: 1/6 a pound
Woman: That's expensive! At the butchers down the road they are only 1/3 a pound
Grandfather: Then why don't you buy them from there?
Woman: They haven't got any
Grandfather: Well, when I haven't got any, mine are 1/3 as well.
It doesn't matter what the Labour tax plans are, their chances of actually being able to execute them are about the same as mine to get elected Pope
