I think in the case of the refugees, they actually wanted to go to Italy, so letting them go was probably a win-win situation.

Your correct Dominic, I heard on the local radio that they wanted to go on to Italy and the cops turned a blind eye and accidentally on purpose let them slip away.

Well, thats their decision! Presumably the press photo which accompanied the report wasn't of their boat.... hope they manage to get to Italy. Though that country is also reported as saying more 'boat' people aren't welcome there either.
