This route is a favourite of ours. It takes you through some beautiful countryside with some abandoned villages thrown in for good measure.

What is not to like with this Movie. Probably a trade secret but how the hell do you navigate some of these tracks
Re: From Statos to Kannaviou - The Movie!
Trial and error. Cyprus is quite challenging in that issue. In the UK, tracks tend to be more interlinked, as land ownership isn't so fragmented. In Cyprus, you can be going down a perfectly decent track only to have it end in the middle of nowhere.
I vividly remember the first time we drove into Statos though. We had entered the Ezousa Valley near Choulou and were driving along the bottom. It was a rough, overgrown track and I was quite keen to get out as I didn't fancy retracing my steps. I found a track that went up so took it. It turned out to be abandoned, and had had a stream running down the middle for the last couple of winters. It literally collapsed as we drove over it. We made it up to this strange village, which was mostly abandoned. We drove through it to the main road, and the road itself was crumbling away. The road has since been repaired.
It was only later that I found out the place was Statos. I was pleased when we found it again, a few years later, by a safer route.
First encounters can be quite misleading though. I remember the first time we drove through Vretsia. I didn't think it was totally abandoned at the time, because the tavern had lots of drink crates etc stacked up outside it. Indeed, the only reason I know that we drove through Vretsia was because we were visiting the Vulture Viewing Station beyond it.
But yes, trial and error mostly. I only tend to film routes once I know where I am going, as getting stuck down a dead end isn't that interesting to view repeatedly.
