I can hear helicopters in the distance. Hopefully they will get it under control soon.

The helicopters were still flying well after 8. Pray all is well with people living there.!

It was the worst local fire I have witnessed in the years we have lived in Akoursos. I believe that at least one house was lost......
Was evacuated but allowed to return later ...
Very disappointed to see the amount of "ghouls" turn up to witness the distress of locals...
Taking there pictures and generally being a nuisance...

I drove up through the outskirts of Akoursos yesterday morning en route from Pegeia to Kathikas and was astounded at how much of the undergrowth had been burnt so close to the village. This was BEFORE this latest horrible fire.

About a month ago I was following a rental car, when the driver chucked a cigarette out of the window, this was on the old larnaca -Limassol road, I immediately blasted my horn at him and saw him looking into his mirror, I gestured with my hands, why did you do that, he put his foot on the gas and sped off, this is how the majority of fires start.

Same thing happened to me couple weeks ago,a fag end was chucked out by the driver of an old pick up,I did actually stop and trod on the still glowing end which had ended up in the tinder dry grass verge,

This is precisely why I stayed away from Tala and Akoursos.

Reading your post, I should of done the same, stopped and stamped on it, but I was hoping he would pull over and I was going to explain the dangers of what he had just done.
