Post by Dominic »

852 cases, from nearly 60,000 tests today.

The breakdown for district and rapid antigen tests shows that Paphos now has a higher positivity rate than Limassol, which is now the 2nd lowest.

Nicosia 228 cases, positivity 1,05%
Limassol 126 cases, positivity 0,88%
Larnaca 117 cases, positivity 1,40%
Paphos 41 cases, positivity 0,94%
Famagusta 21 cases, positivity 0,7%

It is only now that the positivity rate in the UK is below 2% - and we have pretty extensive testing, but not as much as Cyprus per head.

The problem now, in the UK, is that many people aren't going for tests to prevent being told to isolate

Lets not forget that here in Cyprus, that these are predominantly the same people getting tested week in week out to enable them to get to work, or access facilities which require a negative test result before entry is permitted, such as some Doctors and Dentists appointments and sports facilities such as the golf courses.

Also beauticians and hairdressers who also see a lot of people have weekly tests.
The contributory problem here is that many people are fed up with the restrictions in force and are just not observing the health protocols. Masks are no use if they are worn below the nose or under the chin or hanging from one ear... and as for social distancing... in pubs and coffee bars...
