Tonight 'In Cyprus' reports that there were 690 new cases of the virus. The highest daily total which I have seen. The Health Minister is describing the situation at the hospitals as very fragile and warning that the situation may go out of control if the number of new cases continue.

Dee, we’re you not here in December? Peaked at 907.

Yes Ian, I was here in December!
But I don't remember ever seeing that number of cases. Now, it's a different matter since the Kent virus arrived here from UK which is much more infectious. The average number of cases per day has gone from the 300, to 400 and now over 600 a day. Which is why the hospitals and their ICU's are filling up and giving cause for concern.

I would suggest that part of the reason for hospitals filling up is the reluctance of people to get the vaccine, for various reasons. Yes, it will not stop people getting the virus but will reduce the seriousness of the symptoms and consequently the number of hospital admissions because of the virus.

Yes I agree with you completely! It's hard to understand the mentality of some people who refuse the chance of vaccination leaving themselves open to contracting the virus. Particularly when this concerns older people who are most at risk of needing hospitalisation and may also risk death.

None of the present vaccines will stop one getting or spreading the virus. They will just reduce the seriousness of the symptoms. Hence the need to maintain the precautions, even after having the jab especially face masks, to prevent the spread to those numpties who choose not to have it and those unfortunates who for various reasons can't have it.Kili01 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 10:00 am Yes I agree with you completely!
