It certainly surprised me when I read that that the average earnings have risen... I was even more surprised that the average annual monthly earnings of employees during the fourth quarter of 2020
was €2,267..

Surprised me also – Extremely low wages it equates to about £23,000 per annum and then your off takes and that is just the average so some will be on much less – I always assumed the Cypriot’s were on reasonable incomes – just goes to show but I suppose if you are a bar worker you will also have tips.

Most of the workers I know would be grateful to receive half the amount quoted in the article!
I feel this gives a more accurate picture of the struggle people are facing:
'Almost one in three households (30 per cent) said they barely make ends meet, 20 per cent said they have a little difficulty with getting by on their income and 14 per cent said they were having great difficulty'.

Could it be that that there has been a disproportionate loss of lower paid jobs and this would explain the fact that average earnings per employee have risen?

I know of a person who is working at a recycling plant 6 days a week including night shifts and his salary isn't even € 1200.- .
