James Herriot

Post by tonee »

Hi
Any James Herriot fans on here.Have just started re-reading his books(I have them all) and what a treat, forgot what feel good books they were. Also read his autobiography, written by his son.
Many years ago we took a trip to Thirsk, stayed at the Black Bull in the square and visited the vets surgery, really nice experience, loads of American visitors. His real name was Alf Wight,James Herriot was a Birmingham City goalie(remember him well).
Not too sure about the new series on TV,I think Christopher Timothy portrayed him best.

I have a very tenuous link to him. A friend of mine is the Yorkshire Vet, who trained under Alf Wight. We met on a cruise and hit it off. Lovely guy!

His books are very funny, yet Alf suffered from very serious depression and only started writing late in life. He remained very close to his partner (Siegfried), who unfortunately, not long after Alf died, committed suicide.

Really enjoying the new TV series. Mrs Hall seems rather young to me though.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.
