Number of forum members
Number of forum members
Following on from the thread about Edits etc I looked up (As Dominic kindly advised how to) the number of registered
members on the main forums in south Cyprus:
Cyprus Eastern Forum 16,354
Paphos People Forum 7,167
Paphos Life Forum (this one) 541
They say size doesn't matter.
Cheers,
Geoff.
Edit: P.S. Does anyone remember how many members the now defunct Cyprus Living forum used to have?
P.P.S. The main forum in "North" Cyprus Lemon Grove Forum has 2,377
members on the main forums in south Cyprus:
Cyprus Eastern Forum 16,354
Paphos People Forum 7,167
Paphos Life Forum (this one) 541

Re: Number of forum members
Given that those over sites have been running for over 10 years, you would expect them to have more members.
But how many members are active? Perhaps, if you wanted to be a bit more scientific, you would analyse how many new threads appear per month, and how many posts are made, per month.
That would give you a better guide to current, rather than historical activity.

You are probably right.Dominic wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2017 3:42 pm Given that those over sites have been running for over 10 years, you would expect them to have more members.

However on the question of activity only 28 (5%) bothered to vote in your Edit poll!
Things can only get busier.
Geoff.
Re: Number of forum members
If you are that interested, these are the comparative stats since March 12th.
Since 12/03/2017
Paphos Life:
New Members: 52
New Posts: 3621
New Threads: 1239
Paphos People:
New Members: 22
New Posts: 1535
New Threads: 109
Eastern Cyprus:
New Members: 33
New Posts: 1749
New Threads: No data available
You would expect PL to gain more members than the others, due to basic saturation. A better guide for activity is the number of posts.

With regards to the edit poll therefore, you can conclude simply that most people didn't care either way.

Thanks for that, you beat me to it with the new posts stats.Dominic wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2017 4:06 pm If you are that interested, these are the comparative stats since March 12th.

The figures say it all really. My conclusions:
1. Paphos Life members are more active than the other two.
2. Paphos Life members like the regime - "The Pit", the two "Politics" sections etc.
3. As someone has already noted, Paphos Life members not bothered either way over the "Edit" issue.
4. A large percentage of new posts on the Eastern Cyprus forum seem to be by the owner Steve/SJD.
If I was new to Cyprus and wanted just the one forum to participate in, then it would have to be PAPHOS LIFE

Geoff.
Re: Number of forum members
It should be stressed that Geoff has received no payment for this thread.
What I also notice is a fair amount of cross-pollination. People join more than one forum and post on each too. There is certainly room for all of us.

Re: Number of forum members
I am with Vicki & Lloyd on this one.
Geoffreys - there was obviously a purpose in your post but I regret it is missing me like many of your other posts (that is not sarcasm either I really do not understand your purpose in many of your posts but then again I am often a simpleton). Dominic is doing a very good job with a relative new forum and all the other forums you use as a guide are also doing the same - where is the problem? One can make statistics do wonderous things depending on what answer you are looking for.

Re: Number of forum members
I don't think Geoff meant any harm, but you are right about statistics, Rita. The most confusing ones of all are Google Analytics. If you spend too much time looking at them it will drive you mad. Just when you think you can ascertain some sort of pattern, the data changes completely. Just when you think that most people post on a thursday, for instance, hardly anyone will post on a thursday and the previously unpopular tuesday becomes flavour of the month.

Re: Number of forum members
What the Sam Hill is 'the Pit', it's not on this forum....is it
I can't see it...

Re: Number of forum members
The Pit is where posts and threads go when they have dissolved into a big argument. It is so people can carry on arguing until they get tired without disturbing the rest of the forum. Only members of the Pit see what happens in the Pit. I am happy to make people members if they want, but I can assure you you are missing nothing if you don't have access.

No I have no interest in joining in with that....thanks but no thanks Dominic...."I'm a good girl I am"..as Audrey Hepburn once said...Dominic wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2017 7:23 pmThe Pit is where posts and threads go when they have dissolved into a big argument. Re: Number of forum members
Bit of a silly thread really - how can you compare forums that cover different areas with different
demographics - Paphos forums have historically always been busier. How do you measure activity
between new and aged sites not to mention that forums don't just help those who post but also
those that visit and read.
Forums aren't here to compete but to help and serve their repective members and those that visit.
Forums aren't Steve - SJD, Dominic or Neil but the members themselves and the community that is
built around them. Each is different but with much in common and thankfully over the years much
help has been shared around.
Unfortuntely there is a long history with Geoff (which he probably doesn't want to detail) but is probably
behind the posting
Cheers

Re: Number of forum members
CL had at its closure approximately 8.000 registered members, but over the 15 year run had many more, I am very happy many have joined Dominic's new venture from CL, and CL has helped with its boosted membership, but I agree not a sensible thread as it is meaningless.
Lets all hope we can all get on together and move on from the past, and this new forum goes from strength to strength as I'm sure it will.
