Re: Petrol Stations

It will only take you to ones it knows about though. It's database is far from complete. For instance, Google seems unaware of the one near Polemi on the B7.

Happy in Cyprus wrote: Sat Apr 08, 2017 12:39 am Might be useful for some, but if I'm deperate for a petrol station anywhere I use my GPS. If you have an Android phone you can also 'Ask Google' where the nearest petrol station is...and it will take you right there, having first shown you the route, given you a distance and a time to get there. Bloomin marvellous, this technology!
Is there an app which not only shows you whare petrol stations are but what kind of fuel they have and at what price?

There's an app for smartphone / tablet called Maps.me which works on downloaded map data, so no data charges, which allows a search by category, e.g. Petrol stations. Just had a quick look and seems to show plenty of stations in places away from major towns. Definitely shows the Esso at Stroumbi! Will need GPS on device for turn by turn directions which chews up battery life though.

A good motorist prepares the car for every journey beforehand.

And what better way to prepare than to glance at a handy map and see where out-of-the-way petrol stations are?

Incidently, if you are puzzled by the abrupt start of this thread, I have split this thread from the Petrol Station thread, so you can discuss apps here.

Price doesn't vary as much in Cyprus as it does in the UK.

When we first came in 2002, fuel prices were fixed by the government...

I think that is outlawed by the EU...?

The two in our village compete with each other but the difference is marginal. I suspect there isn't a huge amount of profit in fuel...

...that way I am not affected by rising fuel prices... ;)

Thank you for that information, I've just downloaded it. What a useful app, I love all this technology stuff even if it's a bit challenging to keep up with. I guess it keeps your brain fit!

I had a look at the App too. It doesn't have all the petrol stations, but it does show the Stroumpi one at least.
