The GESY abuse by doctors

Post by mike strand2 »

Tales from the Coffeeshop today (20 Sep 2020) draws attention to the abuse being perpetrated by doctors in GESY.

Excerpt:-
On Wednesday, the head of the patients’ association, Marios Kouloumas, speaking on Trito about the abuses of the system by patients and doctors made a very interesting point. He said seven out 10 patients that visited their personal doctor were referred to a specialist incurring huge costs to the system. These are the personal doctors that can earn in excess of 200 grand a year for doing very little.

So instead of providing the primary healthcare they are so generously paid for, they refer 70 per cent of their patients to a specialist, cutting their work to a bare minimum. If they can provide care only to 30 per cent of their patients why are they paid so much money?

This is what happens when a system depends on doctors, who have no GP training to perform the role of GP. All they can do is refer patients to someone that might know what they are doing, because the stats would suggest personal doctors do not and are happy to pass the buck.

I too have been experiencing this and feel aggrieved at the manipulation by such 'so called professionals'.
I am contacting Marios Kouloumas to set out my own experience and would encourage others to do the same. Whilst Mr Kouloumas hasn't yet suggested any collaboration between PD's and consultants, the question must surely be asked! GESY cannot be allowed to fail because of this abuse. It is too valuable to all users of the system.

I think it must also be born in mind that many people in the old system were already seeing 'Specialist Consultants'
I my self was seeing a heart consultant, a urology consultant and a dermatologist..
Now under the new system I cannot go direct to them, I have to see my GP first, to get a Referral...
So this is certainly a good part of the 'Referrals to other doctors' that is mentioned

Indeed it is Trev, plus most times you haven't got to wait months and months like in the UK. The problem that Kouloumas was talking about was the inability of PD's to really do any proper doctoring. He, by assertion, says some are not actually registered doctors! In the UK I had an excellent relationship with my GP & The Practice Nurse. Only when they were unable to treat you would they refer you to a specialist as they were aware of their professional obligations and the cost to the NHS of every referral.

I am considering changing my PD, but to who, that is the question? The GESY portal has many names, but as to their qualifications, experience, etc; NOTHING!

We have no complaints with our doctor .. Dr. Natasha Mala at the Veramedica Centre in Chloraka
You can usually get an appointment the same day .. And you can also get to speak to the doctor on the phone ... She rings back later in the day
I have has ears syringed there and a Steroid injection.. At the larger end of the scale i have been referred for an MRI scan..

Even before Gesy as well as using the doctors at the General Hospital we also from time to time used Dr Mala when you had to pay for a consultation

The article wasn't pointing the finger at all doctors, but clearly there are some who they imported, when GESY couldn't find enough local doctors willing to join.

I realise about the article Mike, but you asked " I am considering changing my PD, but to who ? "
I was just pointing out how happy we are with the one we have used for years...
