Info on Telescopes

My OH is thinking of buying a telescope to view the night sky, can anyone offer advice on the type of things he should be looking for?

I used to use a telescope before but now I use a pair of good quality binoculars and an App on my IPad called OSR Star finder with a clear sky and away from any background lights you can pick out the constellations easily. More info from here https://skiesandscopes.com/beginners-telescope/

Like most things in life, it depends on your budget. However, I'd suggest you buy a Schmidt-Cassegrain reflecting 'scope (search Amazon). Far more compact and adaptable if your needs change upscale later in life than a refracting 'scope. It all depends what you are going to look at, too. Just planets or deep space.

Celestron are good, but have a look at Meade - usually a bit more expensive but it's an area you get what you pay for.

Bear in mind that Cyprus skies in summer are frequently hazy!
