Polemi Tulip Festival - Some photos

Post by Dominic »

Last weekend, the tulip festival came to Polemi, and we were there with our camera to capture a snatch of Cypriot Life.

Dominic- these blogs of yours are becoming a major part of my daily web browsing experience, thank you! It must take you ages, not only to go out in the wilds, and village festivals like this one, but then to sit down and formulate it all...

Sir, you are an absolute diamond and a star! I hope you know that hundreds of Paphoslife members all around the world appreciate your hard work and creativity... It's awesome!

Next suggested Blog project (in the Akamas, before it starts getting too hot). Smidges nature Trail. It's a 'circular', so you can park up in the Smidges picnic site under lots of shade. You like photographing impressive rocky outcrops. Well, you'll find plenty there!

Did this trail on my own a few years back, then, a week later did it with Jacs (Smudger)- the trail, that is. That's when she missed her footing and took a tumble down into a rocky thorny hillside off of a 12" wide stony footpath. A helping hand soon plucked her out of her predicament, remember, Jacs?

Cheers- AL :)

Yes- Dom makes us all really feel the moment, not only with his superb photos, but also with his 'fly of the moment' comments alongside each one... Makes you kind of feel that you're walking there alongside him, in fact!

And when he's doing a blog on somewhere that YOU have trod yourself (either alone, or with friends/family in the past) - that makes his blogs extra special for me. Time to grab a box of tissues and wipe happy memory tears from my eyes...

Glad you like them. I just managed to knobble them all but it was just a weird bug. Fixed again now.

I've done Smigies before a couple of times. You are right about the heat. The first time I drank most of my water by the time I got near the fire station. We did the short walk the day after those floods I blogged about earlier on in the year. I have a shot somewhere of the seat en route completely swamped by mud. I remember that walk well, as it was so muddy we had to keep stopping to remove all the mud from our boots.

And Aphrodite, you are also right. I have immense fun doing it!

The blogs don't take that long because I have automated a lot of it. Once I upload the pics a routine generates the basic blog layout, and I can view it with default text. I click on the text and can edit it while looking at the picture.

My main problem is coming up with stuff to write about to accompany the pictures.

Thanks again, Dominic! As I (and many others) have said- you are a Star, and we hope you can keep the inspiration for PL going for a long time to come!! PM me if you need any assistance with crap like hosting fees, domain renewal, 'n stuff like that, please!

I'll be more than happy to chip in (as I might have mentioned before, but offer still stands, m8!)

Cheers- AL :)

We went to the festival on Sunday- lots of people there. Really enjoyed the event including the young school children performing on stage. The tulip field was just a short walk away and very impressive. Lunch at one of the local tavernas completed a really interesting day.

Nice blog Mr Dominic. The couple from Russian Radio stopped us for a quick interview, with video. It's often been said I've got a great face face for radio......

Just to add another footnote to the original 'Tulips' thread, which plucked memories out of my old grey matter... From mid October 2003 in fact..

Who knows of or frequents Nikkis Taverna on the right, as you drive from Coral Bay to Agios Georgios? (Just past that obnoxious place, also on the right, where CL once held a members evening meal, and I stormed out, leaving my CY£10 note behind, for a meal I didn't order, and waited for until everyone else was starting their desserts, fcs!)

Here's a nice photo of Nikki, whose speciallity is making TULIPS out of paper napkins!

Image

Okay, she doesn't spray them with red and green aerosols, but it still looks nice, yes?

As for the other unmentionable taverna nearby, (no names, to adhere to Dom's board standards), all I wanted was a Pork Chop main dish off their menu. Sat there and waited, and waited... Finally, when everyone else was just starting their desserts, MY main dish arrived! NOT a pork chop, but 'Chef's Special' on their blackboard (with NO price!)

When I said this is not the meal I ordered, Matriarch came flying down to our CL table, telling me that I was wrong!! Oh dear...

Cannot mention name of the establishment, as this would contravene PL rules...
Cheers- AL :(

Just post a link to your Tripadvisor review of the place Al. I presume you wrote one.

No I didn't, Dom. But Jim and Jacs met me back in the Wheatsheaf in Bar Street afterwards and gave me my tenner back! Apparently (they said), the Iron Lady at this establishment realized that a bad mistake had been made...

I think I ended up with a takeaway from 'Out of Africa' over the road that night, LOL!

Nikki rented or sold her place to Paphos International Sailing Club, so unfortunately she doesn't run it anymore.

I wandered up to the tulip field again the other day. It is quite remarkable. The tulips have all died down now, but the soil has not been idle...
