Special hours at supermarkets and pharmacies for vulnerable scrapped

Post by Paphos Life »

More than 2 1/2 months following its implementation, the special hours set at supermarkets and pharmacies for vulnerable groups are no longer in effect as of today, June 9, as per the Health Ministry’s latest decree.

The Cyprus Association of Retail Trade Enterprises said on Tuesday in an announcement that “based on the latest decree by the competent ministry, the measure to exclusively provide service to vulnerable groups, people aged 60 and above and people with disabilities from 7 am to 10 am no longer applies as of today, June 9, 2020.”

Yes, I will also regret its passing. It has been so nice to shop without pushing crowds of people and without kids running up and down the aisles..! It made life easier.
The virus hasn't gone away completely and may well resurface when the flights to the island start bringing in many people from other countries..

Pensioners can shop anytime they want, thus avoiding crowds of people and children , shop during school hours, problem solved.

Got it in one! The shops aren't so busy all day that those who feel the need can't find a quieter time.

We do indeed find a quieter time.. It is not difficult to find out the opening time of different stores, and i find it good to be there when they open, or at least soon after that with ones that open early

I had hoped the special hours would remain in place on a couple of designated days each week eg Mondays and Thursdays as the group included vulnerable people of all ages as well as those aged 60+. One major reason for the early hours was that the shops would be at their cleanest at that time of day.

Problem is that they might not have everything you want early in the morning. E. g. today I still had to wait at 7:15 for the bread I wanted to be baked. That was at Lidl.

I suppose that is dictated by the starting time of the staff. I wonder if it is the same at the two Paphos stores

I've been to Lidl many times early, and have always found it very well stocked for everything which I buy.
Also very clean and tidy which is very important for elderly and vulnerable people.
Many people going in there after 10 wore neither gloves or masks.
