That's what I read too & was not happy with that! The Nicosia supermarket, 'supermarketcy' has a €40 minimum & delivery is free, though I think at the moment they are far too busy locally to be driving 2 hrs here & 2 hrs back on a Wednesday!

AlphaMega have started home delivery to certain Pafos postcodes, through 'Foody' website. Min order €50 & a variable delivery charge.

Why should the supermarkets be expected to deliver for free to everybody?

I do not expect supermarkets to deliver for free . But it would be handy to know up front how much we are going to have to pay .

It’s great that we are starting to get this service in Cyprus . After this is over I think we will always use home delivery . The wife hates shopping .

https://www.papantoniou.com.cy/en/pickup-delivery

PAPANTONIOU

The service is free for:
Pickup orders over 70€ -

Delivery orders over 100€ and provided the location is within 10km of one of the six stores offering the service:
Engomi, Ipsonas, Paphos, Chlorakas, Kato Paphos, & Polis.

However have yet to read of anyone paying a delivery fee. Many have used the Chloraka store.

I don't believe anyone has suggested all deliveries should be free! Supermarkets can make whatever conditions they like for home deliveries and it's up to customers to 'shop around' to get the best deal. My daughter in the UK pays Tesco a small monthly fee for home deliveries, choosing the day and slot to suit her commitments. I remember when it started in the UK & there was a 5 pound charge, though lots of free vouchers available to get delivery free of charge because the supermarket wanted you as a regular customer.

The problem with Paps is they require a relatively large minimum order, with no option to pay a fee for a smaller order. For an elderly vulnerable person living alone, €100 is too much and defeats what I thought was the real purpose of a home delivery.

You said you weren't happy that you had to spend over 100 euros in order to qualify for free delivery. What were you suggesting then, if not free deliveries?

Just omit the word "free". There's no delivery option at all if you spend under €100

Lloyd, we are not in normal times & all businesses are doing what they can to serve their customers. But why if I order some groceries and the value (incl VAT) amounts to €65 don't they still offer home delivery but at a charge?

I did in fact use Paps for a delivery over 2 weeks ago when they first offered the service. I was completely unaware of the min. order & it was never mentioned when I placed the order. I wouldn't know what the bill would be as I do not know Paps prices for everything. The order was delivered (after a chase-up call) & the bill was €72 in cash. So maybe they are not too concerned about the €100 minimum order.
