Evangelismos official update

Post by cashew »

I understand that on the other Paphos forum there is totally incorrect information on the closure of Evangelismos Hospital. Having tried to register to refute this information, the forum does not appear to understand that in the registration "spam bot" section 2 X 2 =4!! and hence I cannot register!

In case this misinformation appears on this forum, here are the facts. Evangelismos is certainly NOT closed.

"The Hospital Administration on the occasion of the outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus has taken the following measures to prevent as much as possible the entry of a patient infected with the virus:

· An entrance has been set up, that is, the Central Entrance next to the Pharmacy, to prevent unnecessary traffic to the site. Please note that all other entrances are closed. To better inform Hospital patients, announcements have been posted at all closed entrances.

· At the central entrance of the Hospital, there is a staff of the security department, who controls the entry of people into the area. It informs and prohibits the visitor from entering the treatment rooms, except for first degree relatives with hospitalized patients. For patients in outpatient clinics, entry is normally permitted after approval by the safety department.

· A voicemail message has been installed on the hospital's telephone system, which states that if patients have flu or virus symptoms, they should be restricted to home, contact their personal Physician by telephone, and then call 1420 for further instructions. It is also reported that visits to the safety rooms have been banned.

· At the same time, all non essential Visitors will be informed that they will not be temporarily admitted to the Hospital.

The Casualty and Ambulance service is working normally 24/7

Please contact Evangelismos Hospital on 26 848000 to confirm the accuracy of this information and ignore comments posted on the other forum.

Many thanks for posting this. Just wondering what is meant by ‘safety rooms’?
I have an appointment there soon.

Having had to visit a specialist yesterday at the Avangelismos they are open but you need a referral to get in, they will not let you in without one, also at the door once you do get inside they temperature test you, the waiting room was like a ghost hospital where is is normally crowded I was the only one person waiting, I did where a facemask and used the hand lotion they supplied, the Doctor looked like a bandit with his black mask adorned with pirate badge, effectively it is closed unless you have a written appointment or of course in an emergency..

Dom that was yesterday, this is today!

Just been informed by the Evangelismos Hospital by phone, to say my appointment next Monday has been canceled until late May, now I have just had surgery and need to see the specialist who performed my operation, cannot see him now until May if then, the hospital is closed it seems. As to real emergencies then you would need to contact the hospital.Effectively it is now closed..

I have just been there for an appointment with the Doctor and was turned away. Told to ring instead. About 3 days ago someone mentioned prescriptions could be obtained by phoning the dr who would send the prescription to the pharmacy. I have been trying ever since on and off to get through. Rang and rang, no answer. Tried main switchboard, answered and put down, rang. again got through, started explaining phone put down again! So we both decided to go anyway. (It was a double appointment). Told to ring him. Rang and rang several times, no answer. Rang switchboard, "can't help, send a text" . So I did, sent, but still en route somewhere. My opinion is, why couldn't they inform people who have appointments not to turn up? They have our contact details. If the message doesn't go through, i will have to keep trying. Shambolic though.

UPDATE AT 17.30 hrs
On the orders of the Minister for Health, ALL public and private hospitals can ONLY see emergency patients. All routine operations and examinations have been postponed until a further announcement is made from the Ministry of Health. Evangelismos Hospital remains OPEN for emergency treatment. Those patients wishing to see their doctor/specialist following surgery should contact the doctor direct on his/her mobile phone number or telephone the main hospital on 26 848000. Patients with dry cough, raised temperature and flu like symptoms should NOT attend the hospital but call the Coronavirus Hotline number 1420.

The official email from the Minister is below:

"Visitors are prohibited for all patients in private hospitals and hospitals of the NHS

In view of the emergency measures taken by the Government, with the aim of tackling the koronvirus epidemic and safeguarding public health, the Ministry of Health announces that from tomorrow, 18 March 2020 until a reassessment of the measures, the visits to all patients at all hospitals of the Organization of State Health Services and private hospitals are prohibited. The Minister of Health will proceed with an arrangement with a relevant Decree to be published in the Official Journal of the Republic within the day.

At the same time, and on the basis of the Decree adopted by the Minister of Health on 15 March 2020, from 16 to 31 March 2020, all planned surgeries and admissions of patients, whose state of health allows them and is not danger or threat to human life. At the same time, it is clarified that visits to all clinics, inside and outside hospitals, are cancelled to deal with cold (non-urgent) incidents. The Pancyprian Medical Association was also issued yesterday."

The following link, at least as shown by my iPad was all in Greek, so not useful to a non Greek speaker. The text of most of this article must have been a direct translation from the Greek version, so unfortunately I found it difficult to understand. To me it seems that the Govt has decided to treat the virus as if it was a war and regards the hospitals as being ready for front line casualties, but at the same time it seems unfair to refuse people who had previously arranged visits to specialist the chance to have at least a quick consultation.
