The gloves are bad shtick is based on the assumption that people put gloves on before they leave the house, do all their shopping, then take them off again when they get home.

This is indeed, a bad idea. Apparently, latex is a better covid transmitting surface than skin.

However, that is not how people wear gloves during the crisis. People put them on when they enter each supermarket, and take them off when they leave.

Dominic's description of how and when to wear gloves, is exactly the way I use them..

Common sense as well as podcasts by the head virologists of the Charité in Berlin and the University of Halle. As they´re both in German and stretch over many hours I won´t link it here. But I posted a summary of my reasoning already in another thread:
jeba wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 12:02 pm You only have to touch anything already contaminated (e. g. the handle of your trolley, a pack of noodles...) because it was exposed to infectious droplets another customer or an employee exhaled. If you didn´t think there was a risk of that you wouldn´t wear gloves in the first place.

I apologise for doubting your credentials.

I'll still follow the WHO reccomendations; after working over fifty years in the Petro-Chemical and Chemical industries working with many deadly gases and chemicals I found the wearing of PPE very beneficial to my health so will continue to do so.

No apologies needed. How should you have known?
You made me curious whether the WHO really recommends wearing gloves for the general public outside special situations. They don´t : https://postimg.cc/HcvJM9w1

Again though, that is based on the false assumption that the gloves are kept on throughout the entire shopping trip.

As said I double glove and put both on before entering a shop and remove the outer ones after leaving. When I arrive home I remove the inner pair after cleaning down keys, steering wheel handles and shoes. I lived through MERS for three years so think my regime worked.

I've just read how New Zealand have been reacting to and dealing with the threat of the spread of coronavirus. IMHO it seems a very sensible approach and similar to the way that Cyprus is currently handling matters. NZ will be re-opening schools and businesses from next Monday and have adopted four phase strategy to get the country back on its feet.

Been thinking about quarantined people that have come in on flights where everyone has been tested upon arrival. If the tests come back negative for everyone, is there a reason, why they can be retested again after 3 / 4 days and if still negative not be sent home? Surely the costs of the tests will be significantly less than the 14 in a hotel ?
