Drain Unblocker / Septic Tank Emptier

Post by Dominic »

Just noticed that there is water coming out of a drain cover in our garden, and the small of poo. This indicates to me that either the septic tank is full or there is a blockage.

So, who near Polemi is the person to call in such a case?

Umffff, well I unblocked the drain, which was great fun, and the waste all drained away, so the septic tank isn't full.

For future reference, does anybody have any decent septic tank emptiers they would care to recommend.

We've been fortunate that our tank hasnt needed emptying in all the years we've lived here but we often have problems after visitors have stayed despite saying that nothing must be flushed down the loo apart from toilet tissue. Its advisable to go easy on bleach & other chemicals. We also occasionally flush a pot of live yoghurt into the tank.

If you don't use bacteria killing chemicals your septic tank
will last for a decade before you have to empty it.
Sometimes drain pipes are laid not with the right slope or in older
ones plant roots made their way into it. My advise is: flash the loo
before you use it and after you used it 2-3 times extra.

2 years ago one could buy good bacteria from WC net company in
the Supermarkets which are necessary in a septic tank as they eat
away all the solid stuff, paper.....what is left is only water.

So who is good for unblocking drains then? It turns out my unblocking was a false dawn. I noticed that water was flowing slowly so I lifted more covers and eventually found a cover away from the house which is full.

We have used Faganas (99624919) when we needed to empty our septic tank for repair work (the developer had forgotten the pipe from the tank to the soakaway). The were very prompt and clean, it cost €80.

Where one can buy that Tank Wizard? It is obviously the same
stuff like the bacteria tablets from WCnet which are not available
in CY any more.

I got the original bottles from the Drain company in Gersikopou (sp) - the company that were converting septic tanks to mains drainage etc.

Draintech - http://www.draintechcyprus.com - although I don't know if they're still going?

I then bought some from Amazon...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tank-Wizard-Tr ... B009YJPZA8 - currently unavailable on there....

This one on Amazon.com ships to Cyprus....

Dominic, try One Stop for some Spurgo, it's Italian biological stuff for septic tanks - it's in a white plastic pot with a blue lid, usually found near the tubes of silicone on the shelves to the right of the entrance. Just flush a scoop or two down the loo nearest the septic tank to help get the pit bacteria working. A feed every so often with live yoghurt is a good idea -just remember yoghurt tends to float!

However, before you do any feeding of your tame pit bacteria, check all the pipe runs to ensure that the out pipe leading to the pit is actually lower than the inflow pipes from the bathrooms and kitchen. Our clever builder got it wrong. We had to get a firm in to re-bench the drains to ensure a proper run. Not had any problems since then, pit works well, no nasty niffs (fingers crossed, touch wood, etc etc :D ) - but then I don't throw bleach or disinfectant down the toilet or any sinks. I use TikTak toilet cleaner and to disinfect, I pour neat disinfectant on a wodge of loo or kitchen roll, wipe around, replenish the paper as necessary, putting the used paper in the bin.

Dominic, for our apartment in Tala we use Hydrojet so can recommend them. There is a 'honey wagon' in Polemi, the house opposite the church, turquoise coloured Chevy twin cab parked ther, also known as the house with the nasty dog.

I tried that house this morning, but nobody, other than the dog and a plethora of cats, was in.

All sorted now. I was outside listening to the lovely sound of the shower water tinkling through all the pipes again.

I'm a bit confused by your question.

Septic tanks have a soakaway, it's all an integral part of the system.

Maybe you meant cesspit?
