Jules, it's Dick Strawbridge, he's done tons of stuff on tv including Masterchef, and a programme with his son where they meander in and out of the UK coast on their boat and stop off exploring local franchises and artisans work and then entertaining them on the boat. Comes on every few weeks or so around tea time, worth watching.
I've also seen programmes about his house renovation, but no real idea when they might be on.
Never heard of him before but thanks for the info.... will keep an eye open for the future We don't usually watch TV until around 19:30hrs (UK time) so have most likely missed anything on earlier than that.

LOL, I'm with HIC and Hudswell on this - neither me or my other half are enamoured with US TV programmes and having just looked at the list that Dom produced, we haven't watched a single one of those programmes
If you haven't watched any of them how can you possibly claim that UK tv is better, I'm sure Hudswell and HIC are in the same position.

Because we've seen others that weren't listed and gave up after a couple of episodes. Seen clips of some of those listed and nope, they're not for us..... Too many US programmes are too busy trying to emulate UK programmes and fail - miserably.
Sherlock and Elementary being just one example....

The Oasis program was on BBC 2 on Wednesday the 27th at 10pm uk time .
Re tv programs , I can find stuff I like in both USA and uk made . We are all different and like different things .
An American series I can recommend is Traveler , from 2007 and only 8 episodes . It can be found on YouTube . We watched all 8 over 2 evenings , this week .

Coincidence, re earlier comments, Dick Strawbridge and his son are on BBC tv as we speak doing a round the coast cooking, foraging, meet and greet........ I know it's too late for most now, but would guess it will be on for a few Saturdays at same time, 11.30 UK
Bear in mind though, that we don't actually tend to watch TV channels. We tend to go via box sets. These don't have adverts, so that isn't an issue. And yes, we do only watch the cream, our particular flavour of it anyway. That's the beauty of being able to watch via a series link. However, there is a lot more cream in America's pot.
I abhor all soaps and reality shows.
I think the only British thing we still stick with is Dr Who, Have I Got News For You, and some of the documentaries. Nobody does it like David Attenborough. Everything else is just too tedious. We used to like that one with the Pathologists, but it has ended now. Oh, Black Mirror was good, but that was a darker copy of Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone anyway, and it is now run by Netflix I believe.
We liked Modern Life is Goodish, but that's stopped now too.

Elementary is much better than Sherlock. Sherlock was good for the first couple of series but now it is just running around like a headless chicken.

Surely, which programmes anyone watches depends on their individual tastes. Most of our watching is news and documentaries, but to the total exclusion of soaps, series and other fiction, but that is personal. Wifey did like Master Chef, when it was running, but that was the only proggy of that genre that we watched.
I agree re Attenborough (last night we watched the one on the ants in the Jura which we found fascinating because we lived in the foothills of the Jura for 30-odd years and had often watched them in real life! That's what I mean by personal choice!)
We watched Attenborough and the ants last night and enjoyed it . We also lived in France for a few years . Although not in the Jura , but Limousin and there used to be one of those ant mounds near us , it got bigger each year .
I'm another one who loves the best of both and throw in a few French and Scandinavian thrillers for good measure. I only generally watch drama (never been a soap watcher). I did love Breaking Bad and loved Ray Donovan. I particulary enjoy the BBC drama series and am eagerly awaiting the return of Taboo!

The worst American copy of a British made series, in my opinion, was Mad Dogs (watch it if you haven't seen it), the humour from the series simply did not translate, it was dreadful.
In my opinion one of the best to come out of UK TV was, Line of Duty...Brilliant but I think the last series was one to many and didnt match up to the previous ones.
