You will need to be a bit more clear as to what you mean by "Expat telly". There are many options.

Our Expat TV has been working fine except there is a lot of rubbish being aired, Dads army, Strictly, Mrs Browns, to name a few ;)

Here are'a couple of subscription ones - cheaper than NTV and in my view - more reliable. I use both of them. With streamcenter you are good for upto 3 devices from the same Ip address and with ultimate is just the one.
http://streamcenter.tv
and
http://ultimatemania.rocks
You can use them via a Kodi install or using GSE IPTV on an iPad or phone for syreamcenter or Matrix tv on iPad/phone.

Streamcenter has all the usual Sky and BT channels for UKTV Sports and Movies along with a range of US based channels.
Try it for a month - it aint expensive.
Watching the Ashes on BT HD at the moment - faultless service.

I was with Sportsmania and now with Ultimatemania, every sports and TV channel under the sun, perfect viewing and the best out there, only drawback now, you have to pay with bitcoin, open an account with someone like Blockchain, transfer the money into it and then pay Ultimatemania for sub, only tales a few minutes.

If UK terrestrial TV is sooooo bad, why are you so keen to watch it - and more importantly, pay for the service?

Brit TV has been diabolical, the only programme worth watching for me was Call The Midwife. It gets worse every year.

We only watch UK TV for a couple of hours each evening so we don't really come unstuck - plus there's almost always a programme clash which we tend to watch on +1 or on Catch Up via one of the apps on our Samsung player.

We brought 2 TVs back with us from Cyprus which meant they were not set up for UK Freeview but we bought a Samsung 3D Blu-Ray player for around £75 last year which also gave us access to BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, 4oD and Demand 5 plus a shed load of other apps that we haven't even started to explore.

We've not come across the "I can't find anything to watch" problem since we got back to UK 20 months ago....

Last night we watched Corrie and then hubby wanted to catch the Doctor Who special from Christmas Day but I gave up halfway through it. It either grabs me or it doesn't. Always touch and go with this TV series for me...

Then we went and sought out a series we've followed for a couple of years on Channel 4. The 3rd series was on the other month and we only saw the first episode before we got caught up in a few back to back drama series.

If you haven't seen it, it's worth taking a look at.... It's about a couple who bought a rundown 45 room French château and doing it up as they live in it. They're a bit of an odd couple - she's arty fatty (that should have said "farty" but looks like the predictive text on my phone got the better of me this morning ;-) ) but he's into engineering so can do most things needed in between heading off for work every so often to bring in extra dosh to pay for the jobs.... She looks after the kids and is running a few rooms and the garden as a wedding venue.

Worth a look if only for the beauty of the building and the nature in the gardens .....

Escape To The Château 😊

I don't watch soaps or Dr Who, so the best I can find at the moment is The Chase. It's all down to, what one enjoys, another doesn't. I recorded some programmes I thought I might enjoy, but they turned out to be absolute rubbish.............in my opinion. I did enjoy Escape To The Chateau, but it finished quite a few weeks ago, likewise Doc Martin, another of my 'likes'.

We have to watch Corrie, it's the law in our house..... I can take it or leave it, but my hubby has watched it since he was a young lad whereas I only caught up with it somewhere in the 1980s when I started living with a lad I was seeing at the time (about 10yrs before I met my now husband).

That's about as far as it goes with soaps - but we do both like the UK tv dramas which in the Autumn each of the channels have a habit of putting them on all at the same time. Can't be bothered with recording anything, we find it on catchup and if we don't find it there - then we don't watch it.

What's on tonight, owt or nowt?

Jules, it's Dick Strawbridge, he's done tons of stuff on tv including Masterchef, and a programme with his son where they meander in and out of the UK coast on their boat and stop off exploring local franchises and artisans work and then entertaining them on the boat. Comes on every few weeks or so around tea time, worth watching.
I've also seen programmes about his house renovation, but no real idea when they might be on.

American TV is much better. Sorry.

Blacklist, NCIS, Law and Order, Criminal Minds etc etc etc

And sillier stuff, like Supernatural, Ash vs The Evil Dead, American Horror

And who can forget previous classics, like Breaking Bad, Prison Break, Lie To Me, Mentalist, Fringe (I loved Fringe), CSI... the list goes on and on.

UK TV is full of soap and reality pap, with the occasional nugget. The same may be true of US TV, but they have a lot more nuggets.

LOL, I'm with HIC and Hudswell on this - neither me or my other half are enamoured with US TV programmes and having just looked at the list that Dom produced, we haven't watched a single one of those programmes :|

My stepson used to complain bitterly about the TV in USA when they went out for 3 week holidays each year - he said it was full of adverts, even longer than those on UK TV.

Then he moved to live in Australia and said quite frankly, OZ telly is crap!
