An interesting article from the cross Party of MPs 'Exiting the EU'...if some of parliament wants clarity as well as the HoL, hopefully sense will prevail..

The Government should now make a unilateral decision to safeguard the rights of EU nationals living in the UK, the cross-party Exiting the European Union Committee has unanimously agreed in its report. The MPs are also calling on the Government to seek to ensure that UK nationals already resident in other EU countries – and EU citizens already living here – do not lose their rights to healthcare and pensions after Brexit.

All parties to the negotiations must put the resolution of the rights of all EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU as their first priority. It would be unconscionable, the committee believes, for EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU not to have clarity about their status for another two years. The Government has made it clear it wants an early agreement to protect the rights of EU nationals in the UK and of UK nationals living in other member states. The Committee commends its commitment to this outcome. It is regrettable that this has not yet proved possible.

Definitely "unbelievable". I mean, after all, why would a UK expat not seek some assurance that health care and those who are not yet retired, their employment rights and residency status will continue as they currently are for them in their chosen EU country of residence?

I think there is an element in rhe Lords, mainly the Lib Dems, intent on wrecking Brexit by fair means or foul. May did threaten that she would radically reform the HoL if that happened. If it does I hope she keeps her word.

The second vote in the HoL re amendments to brexit bill is expected at 5pm today..

The amendment calls for the Lords and the Commons to be given an early vote on the Brexit deal and would give them the chance to stop Mrs May from walking away from the EU without a deal.

They're fast becoming the govt opposition, I think in the UK there's growing signs the public are not liking what it sees with the PMs decision making, I believe the vote did not mandate leaving the single market and that the Government is out of tune with what the majority want when it comes to the Brexit negotiations.

Brexit: Government suffers second defeat in Lords

The government has been defeated in the Lords as peers backed calls for a "meaningful" parliamentary vote on the final Brexit deal by 366 votes to 268.

Well, the PM is sticking to her word. Heseltine has been sacked from several Government advisory positions for opposing the Government last night. Well done her.

The man stands up for the sovereignty of Parliament, and gets sacked for his trouble.

So much for democracy and free speech. Nice to see freedom of speech being respected ...conform or your fired.

Makes you wonder how many younger MPs there are who actually think "My jobs at stake here so I'm voting anti-European even though I don't agree"

Doubt Heseltine is that concerned about being sacked from an unpaid job, even though he was good enough to be a govt advisor for five depts for eight years....

Right up to the Referendum vote May backed Cameron and his party line of remaining in the EU whist wanting to change it from the inside. During the Leadership campaign she remained quiet. It was only after she became leader did May become Brexit means Brexit..

When the government has to resort to such naked vindictiveness, they're desperate.

He should be standing up for (1) the people and their vote for Brexit (2) Party loyalty.
This is the man who stood for election as Party Leader after Mrs "T" but lost to John Major. I was a Party Constituency Vice-Chairman
at the time and supported him; I would not do so now; he is a turn-coat IMO, and passed his sell-by-date.

Geof's right, the upholding of a democratic referendum takes priority. These unelected lords are protecting nothing but their own cushy roles and in the process impeding the upholding of democracy. May was correct in sacking him.
