Referral Letter by doctor

A friend was given a referral letter by his doctor to go to see another doctor and to pay 6 euros, if he needs an operation at this private hospital does anyone know if he will pay for it.

If you set it out clearly in an email and send it to Gesy they will respond.. Or maybe better still ask the doctor..

I asked my Gesy doctor yesterday whether the private hospitals have signed up to Gesy yet?
Her answer was No, as the hospitals and (I think) specialist doctors are to be included in the 2nd stage of Gesy which is next year. However, its best to do as Trev suggested and make your own enquiries about the situation now.

Certainly the urology consultant I saw at the General yesterday is part of Gesy.. He entered my prescription on the system yesterday and I collected my tablets from a 'private' pharmacy this morning..
One perhaps small niggle is that if you see a Gesy doctor or consultant at the General at say around 1 o'clock then when you exit the hospital the private pharmacists are closed for lunch..

I see a Cardiologist at a private hospital in Paphos, and he treats me under the GESY system.
I require an operation quite soon, and I can either have it done free at the General, or pay for it to be done at the private hospital.
I believe "in patient" treatment at private hospitals will come under GESY from 1st June 2020.

I would suggest and hope that if it is done at the Paphos General it is not a serious op. I would still have to think twice about having a heart op there

I am curious! Is this opinion from personal experience, hearsay or assumption? MOH as had nothing but excellent care at the General medically speaking, The personal care is not up to much and the food is not to our taste. Equally I have acquaintances who have had not so successful operations in private hospitals.

Agree with Trev....
My wife had a stroke earlier in the year...we have private health care, but no private hospital could deal with it.
She spent three weeks in Nicosia General, a team were flown in from Athens to do the required procedure. Nothing but praise for the General Hospital...

Darrow i have been in the Paphos General my self with a heart attack and they saved my life, however this was over 10 years ago..
Since then My wife and my FIL deceased now has been in... i also have a good friend who has been in years ago for a replacement hip.. The doctors have said to us that the chances of getting an infection there are quite high ... This is my main reason for saying try somewhere else.. So it is not really rumours.. but based on fact..
I have had a heart procedure in Nicosia General and found the place and staff a lot better. But again, this was many years ago..

I have to agree with you, the cleanliness standard at Paphos General are poor. However I believe the Doctor's appear to do a good job. Let us hope that things improve, now people can vote for whomever they want. Once the GESY becomes fully operational next year it will have a very low footfall if it doesn't buck its ideas up!

I have also had a very bad experience at Paphos General.
I think I'll cough up the cash and go private.

But now that a number of private doctors and presumably surgeons are in Gesy.. will you need to cough up the cash.. Why not see your GP and ask there who is the best to go to..

Interesting comments about Paphos General Hospital as I was discharged yesterday from the surgical ward after a 2 night stay. Having worked in state hospitals and clinics in a few countries I have nothing but praise for the caring staff, cleanliness and for someone who tends to avoid Mediterranean food, I ate every meal - far better than some tavernas I have visited. A patient in the same ward required extensive care, tests and treatment by the surgical doctors and nurses and when I was discharged I complimented the Sister on duty for the overall care I had received and said as far as I was concerned, I had been looked after far better than some private and other state hospitals elsewhere.

That is good news galexinda ! MOH was on cardio ward a couple of years ago. Excellent medical care, but I had to provide personal care. The toilet was awash with "water"? and breakfast was a piece of village bread with margarine and jam and a lump of cheese with a cup of weak tea. Main meal was boiled pasta and not a sign of a vegetable! Sounds as though things are looking up!

I was in Paphos General for 8 days earlier this year, and my experience was not good at all.
Since seeing a private Cardiologist, who I initially had to pay for, but who is now on GESY, my health has improved 100%

Yes, I was fortunate and so people do not think I am 'painting a rosy picture' there were three separate issues about my care that I did discuss with the nursing and medical staff before I was discharged - in fact I dressed but refused to leave the seat by my bed until one was dealt with to my satisfaction because I knew that if I left the bed and sat in the waiting area I would probably be ignored in the hope that I would eventually just go home!

So please, if you have a complaint - anywhere (eg a restaurant, a shop) - it is best to complain at the time and to the right people!

When I was discharged from Paphos General, my arms and hands were twice there normal size. This was caused by infection from IV drips. My wife had to dress me and I was totally unable to drive myself home.
The last thing I wanted to do was sit around waiting to complain to somebody.
