It’s just awful, deranged fanatics strike again. I have a friend with children at school in Christchurch. Do hope that they are all OK, It must have been frightening when the police apparently put the whole city in ‘lock down’ afterwards.

Re: New Zealand Massacre
I've a friend who teaches there, and she had over 60 7 year olds in 'lock down'. Some of the little ones had already been traumatised when the massive earthquakes struck, a few years ago. It must be terrifying for them.
Re: New Zealand Massacre
Very sad what has happened. My thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected.
Re: New Zealand Massacre
Came across this on twitter, re the media blame on the U.K., US and Australia, where Murdoch is a common thread.
Re: New Zealand Massacre
I had a little chuckle at the top-right extract of the pic. Here, should it not read 'MIGRANTS SHUN THE GREEK LANGUAGE'? And, FYI, I do try in Greek albeit conversationally a little basic in tenses but I can usually get my thoughts across with a vocab I estimate at >1000 words.
Re: New Zealand Massacre
If you are going to start blaming right-wing media for this you also need to blame the Koran for Islamic terrorism. People like James o'Brian quite rightly DON'T do the latter so they shouldn't do the former either.

Dominic, I don’t think you can blame the Koran, more cultures and specifically tribal cultures that misuse Islam to suit their primitive ideologies. Islam is ‘interpreted’ so many different ways, look at Pakistan compared to Albania.
To clarify, fundamentalism ruins Islam, as it did with Christianity in the middle-ages. Sadly, many Islamic cultures live middle-ages ideals, with poor education and Mullahs controlling thoughts and laws created based on fundamental religious principles.
More needs to be done by the ‘educated’ Muslim cultures, but sadly the ones to blame are the Saudis of this world, who we court and treat as friends, when they fund and promote this evil cultural religious fundamentalism.

I don't think you can blame the Koran either. Neither can you blame the media for what happened at Christchurch. That was my point.

I think the media plays a larger part than you give them credit for. Don’t you think it influences votes, outcomes of referendums and can push a bigot to an extreme? I do.
Re: New Zealand Massacre
Of course it influences votes etc, but extremists are barking mad. It goes with the territory.
Anders Behring Breivik heaped praise on Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson. Does that mean they are to blame for his actions? Of course not. I am no fan of Clarkson, but for somebody to blame him is as daft as somebody blaming God when a killer says they heard God tell them to do it.

Re: New Zealand Massacre
Whoever or whatever caused this mad man to commit this act, we may never know, but it's a terrible, tragic loss of life, I read that a three year old actually ran towards the gunman, truly sickening.

Re: New Zealand Massacre
I do not understand the references to the Koran in this thread. The perp was not Muslim, only the victims; in fact, I rather gather he was a Fundamentalist Christian, whatever that means (maybe a straggler from the First Crusade?)

What a horrible reaction to such tragedy.

Re: New Zealand Massacre
Re-read my posts Devil. It might make a bit more sense then. Nobody was saying the perp was a muslem. I was saying blaming right-wing media for this is as non-sensical as blaming the Koran for Islamic terrorists.

Re: New Zealand Massacre
An eye for an eye just carries this on. The people that cause or do terroist attacks are just fanatical idiots and have no place in any community and are criminals and should be treated so. The koran and bible are not a high way code to be followed to the limit and people read the high way code wrong. All in all people die again because we cant live in this lovely world as a race.
