Legal or not
Re: Legal or not
Yes, agree it must be OK, if you are on the hard shoulder. The problem is the heightened risk of accidents, ie being accidentally run over by another vehicle. It would be better and safer to try to reach a service area before changing the tire, If possible.
Re: Legal or not
I believe in the UK it is now illegal and the recommended practice is to call the Highways Agency! Not sure though what is actually the position in Cyprus but I would think most people would just pull onto the hard shoulder and change the wheel?

Re: Legal or not
You may have to use the auto rescue you get with your insurance to come out to get you off the motorway. Different countries sometimes different rules.

Re: Legal or not
Presuming you are talking of Cyprus calling the Auto Rescue here can be problematic .. I have yet see a breakdown vehicle with a cab for 4 or 5 passengers plus the driver.. So I think they would change the wheel for you..

Re: Legal or not
No its not illegal, but you should have a warning triangle by law in your car... myself I have a fluorescent jacket and a flashing torch which gives you a better chance of being seen by other motorists, both bought from Lidls,
Re: Legal or not
The reason I asked the question was because watching one of these tv shows about motorway police patrols ,a dear lady in a range rover had stopped on the nearside lane with a shredded tyre and a damaged wheel .they coned off the lane then waited around an hour for a recovery truck to arrive . Why not change the wheel in about five minutes and every body can go on their way . Since learnt some new cars are not supplied with a spare .

Re: Legal or not
Possibly like most New cars it doesn't carry a spare; two of our cars don't. We just have a bottle that screws to the valve and inflates the tyre and temporarily seals thelefkes wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 1:37 pmThe reason I asked the question was because watching one of these tv shows about motorway police patrols ,a dear lady in a range rover had stopped on the nearside lane with a shredded tyre and a damaged wheel .they coned off the lane then waited around an hour for a recovery truck to arrive . Puncture long enoughto get to a garage. If the tyre was shredded it wouldn't work and would have to call out a recovery vehicle which happened to a friend of mine.

Re: Legal or not
In Germany it often is the case that the space for the apare tyre is needed for installing a LPG tank (as LPG costs only half as much as petrol).WHL wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 1:50 pmWhat country was this in?lefkes wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 1:37 pmThe reason I asked the question was because watching one of these tv shows about motorway police patrols ,a dear lady in a range rover had stopped on the nearside lane with a shredded tyre and a damaged wheel .they coned off the lane then waited around an hour for a recovery truck to arrive . Re: Legal or not
I used to have a Mercedes that had no spare , they provided a tin of tyre repair and an electric air pump . Not much use if the tyre got shredded .
