Limni Waters Turn Vivid Blue

The recent heavy rainfall has had an unusual effect on the streams around the old Limni Mine - it has turned some of them a vivid blue.

I would imagine copper is mixing with sulphur to make Copper Sulphate.

As an aside, in my Chemistry A Level practical exam, I had to identify a mystery substance. It was Copper Sulphate, and thus not too difficult to spot.

That's what I thought anyway, and couldn't believe I had been handed such a sitter. However, it turns out that it was actually Copper Ammonium Sulphate. Had I not had a cold I would have been able to identify the whiff of ammonia as I performed my tests. I lost marks because of a blocked nose.
