The person I recommend you contact is Maureen Watts at Angel Guardians Funeral Home in Paphos as suggested by Flossie. She will be able to give you directions where to go to find out more information about a Death Certificate and how to locate a grave. Suggest you (or even better your friend) contacts her by EMail and hopefully you will be able to find out the information when you are in Paphos. EMail: [email protected]

Hi, if you go to a citizen advice centre they should be able tell you where to find the local registry office, word of warning I tried to get a copy of a death certificate for a non family member and was told no way only family could get this.

I recently went to get a copy of my first wife's Death Certificate Apostille'd at the Citizens Advice, they couldn't do it due to them not having a copy of the original Registrars signature. They issued a replacement Death Certificate as they had all the information online, it was signed and Apostille'd there and then. Whether it has to be a direct relative applying I don't know. You could bring a letter of authority from a Solicitor giving you permission but again that will have to be Apostille'd.

The OP said, I think that this gentleman had been to the British Forces. If he served for a good number of years in one of the 3 services, there’s just a chance that he might have been burried in the British Military Cemetery which is situated at Dhekeleia, which is near Agia Napa.

Hi Trev
Not completely correct as i tried to find members of my own family on this site knowing full well where they are buried in two separate cemeteries and they did not come up - So i checked to see why in various places and it seems most of the work is done by volunteers free of charge since 1995 and not everything is on there yet - Also found this -

FindaGrave is a work in progress just like WikiTree, so I hope some profiles there that don't have headstones or sources will have them in the future. I've been known to request photos from time to time there just in case there really is a headstone visible and readable. There are tons of eager volunteers there that you won't find anywhere else.

Update for those who use Find-A-Grave. A number of its users are removing the memorials they added in protest against Ancestry.com's acquisition of the site. Among the group are several members who added 30,000 - 100,000 memorials. One lady has removed over 27,000 of the 30,000 she added and is working on removing most of the remaining 3,000. If you use Ancestry, MyHeritage, or another site that searches Find-A-Grave and you come across a broken link, it may be a result of a person removing the memorial.

When the sale happened, a lot of people said they would remove them, but many did not follow this through.

It's amazing how many requests come through my email account from the Find A Grave website on a daily basis... I get at least 2 a day during normal times but the last 2 weeks have been particularly crazy as I'm guessing people have been at home with time on their hands.

I'm one of the Find A Grave photographer volunteers (in UK).

My first wife is buried in Paphos Cemetery where there are many British and other nationalities buried. You could go to the Bishops residence which is by the Muse restaurant down from the town hall and speak to the Bishops Secretary who I always found very helpful, he will have a register of all those buried there. I'm sure one of the members can post a map showing the cemetery location which is below the Muse restaurant
