Paphos police have arrested two men after shots were fire outside a cafe in a Paphos district village a little after midnight on Sunday.The incident was reported by a 50 year old man who told police that a double cabin pick up truck had stopped outside the cafe and the co-driver had fired two shots in the air....

About ten years ago at Easter one of my neighbours, who wasn’t content to just let off firecrackers and home-made pipe bombs to celebrate the Resurrection spent much of the day shooting at the swallows and anything else real or imagined in the skies.
My friend next door pointed to her sun-bed which was sprinkled with descended shot pellets, and indeed I heard them pattering regularly through the palm trees as they fell.
By the evening, I phoned the Police. Eventually an officer turned up, who was very pleasant and explained that it was just a Cypriot custom, and was quite harmless.
So these days, I wouldn't worry unless the gun is pointing at me!
