The Church of Cyprus is big enough that the bossman should have his hands full administering the church polity and not the country's policy. If he tries to do both, then neither will be done correctly.

'Twas ever thus. I'm a believing Christian, but still shudder somewhat when a senior church worthy gets involved in politics and governmental matters in the UK.

It’s the Church in Cyprus that has exasperated this situation and would impede a settlement

The archbishop seems to have lost some pages from his bible. The ones referring to loving one's neighbour.
He should keep his nose out of politics and focus on running his property development empire and his Keo brewery. Oh, and I think he fits in some churchy stuff as well.

Went to see him two months ago re use of small plot of land to grow carrots, onions, etc for Syrian refugees. Just a short term loan/use of land. His answer (1) he is not interested in Muslims (2) if I am so concerned why do I not take them all to the UK and (3) if it is a problem, not his but a govt. problem. I was appalled by his response to me. He was shouting at me, a 74 year old women whose husband had died four weeks previously. I stormed out saying that I would pray for his soul as he obviously needed as many prayers as possible. Cypriot Orthodox Church, largest land owners. Give me your poor and I will feed them, give me your starving and I will feed the. Does he know the bible?

May I suggest you inform the papers of a cold account of your interview, stating the facts without any emotive feelings. Dear Lloyd (and of course Ann), I reminded him also that Jesus was not a white skinned man. The chap downstairs in the "palace" was entirely different and wanted to help in whichever way he could. I am back in April and will start a different approach. In France in 2016/2017. a law was passed that no food should be tampered with or destroyed but should be left at the back of ALL stores for the poor, elderly and refugees. Anyone found tampering with fruit, or tins of food faced a large fine. The govt. checked 9 months later and not one store had seen one euro decline in profit. I will start bombarding Lidl and the rest of them with this concept and the offer of immense coverage, good PR, plus photographs of them doing this. It is not just refugees but the poor in Cyprus as well. Rant over from an elderly woman.

Dear Devil, always, always, always loved your erudite posts. I sent an email to the President Mr A and related the previously mentioned encounter. No reply as yet. Previously with the last president Mr C I have had a lot of feedback regarding different subjects. I do not want to change the world, I just want to make it fairer. I did think about the newspapers, I have friends in Reuters. But do not want to incur too many enemies.

Journalists will not reveal their sources, if so requested. However, it may weaken your credibility if you do so.

Lloyd, coincidences are very strange. Just watched the evening news and it was announced that the Co-op were selling out of date food for 10 pence, not use by, but best by. Once again profits have not gone down.

In the UK, sadly most supermarkets now have collection bins for food banks, as well as for cats and dogs..... it says something really.....

It does. That is why there is a Royal Society for the protection of animals, and only a National Society for protection of children.
