This will come into force 2019, tax duty at first registration
Any 2nd hand petrol over 120 months will be charged €2000 and diesel €1000
Registration etc will be extra
Look at the 3rd table, the first and second are for annual road tax.

Hello Vic how are you doing?

My advice for what it is worth is, forget it, buy here, dealing with the customs and MOT Import office, could give you more trouble than an old car is worth, your choice of course, and no doubt someone will tell you it is no problem, it is!

I always say this, yes motors are more expensive here but come the time to sell they are also worth more, think very hard about importing motor here Vic.

And a happy Christmas to you and the family,.
Jim.

Just thinking back over the past three years of the six couples who brought over their vehicles four have since sold them and another is in the process of changing hands. Sold for various reasons, eg not suitable for the road surfaces here and/or low chassis (especially if you want to go 'off road' which doesn't necessarily mean having a 4 wheel drive vehicle), high annual road tax and being able to get parts are other factors.

Good point about the spares, Japanese cars are the most common in Cyprus and the most reliable.
I would personally avoid older French cars like the plague.

Brought over my Toyota Yaris 13 years ago. Whole process was fairly smooth and only took a day of running around Paphos sorting registration, MOT, duty etc.

I had the advantage of owning the car from new in the UK which meant that when I bought its replacement, I was able to negotiate a decent discount which helped offset some of the costs in Cyprus.
