Basically you can cut down any tree and burn it but you need to let it season for a while, ie dry out, otherwise you will end up with a smoking mess and not a nice burning log fire!

It is not very special to burn Cypress in your fire place. Important is that you split it when fresh, otherwise you can't do it later and relatively small pieces. At least two years drying time and even then it will smoke quite a lot. After that experience I used it only on the outdoor BBQ in the past...

It would be better to leave it on the road some 20 m away from the next best house, this is the Cypriot way to show that it is abandoned stuff (any) and people will take it what ever it is.
