Is it significant that the countries with the highest implementation of renewable electricity are amongst those which pay the highest overall costs for the energy?Unfortunately, the chart does not show the proportion of the electricity that is generated from renewable sources.

In 2011 I used 345Kwh & the bill came to 98 Euro. Just received bill to 20/11/18 where I used 345Kwh and it's less than in 2011 by 13 Euro!

After the explosion of Mari we had the highest electricity prices ever in Cyprus, that's why, but it looks like we are going back to that...mike strand2 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 27, 2018 7:32 pm In 2011 I used 345Kwh & the bill came to 98 Euro. You would have thought logically that with 320 odd days of sunshine a year and lots of unused land for Solar parks Cyprus would be the greenest country and the cheapest provider of electricity in the EU or am I missing something somewhere ???????

The reason the EAC gave for the recent rise in electricity prices was that the cost of oil had gone up! In fact the price of oil has gone down internationally. If you look at the petrol stations you can see fuel prices have dropped a lot.
So what reason has the EAC got to increase elec prices now?
Answers on a post card please, as used to be the norm...
Seriously they are taking us all for a ride especially when the rise is timed as the winter weather kicks in....

For the foreseeable future it will probably be natural gas. Which gives some hope to the economy of Cyprus.Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Thu Nov 29, 2018 6:37 pm The only 24/7 guaranteed generating capacity will come, I imagine, from tidal flows and wave power...and we don't have too much of that here.

HIC: You missed out nuclear which is the only way of 24/7 carbon-free electricity. Good progress has been made with fail-safe thorium reactors in India. Tidal and wave are both intermittent.jeba wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 6:35 amFor the foreseeable future it will probably be natural gas. Jeba: Natural gas will be phased out by 2050 because it is one of the worst sources of greenhouse gas emissions.
