Yes, they are pecans. I remember when we first came to Cyprus I picked up an unripe (still green) one and tried to open it, and I had black dye under my fingernails for days.

Yep, pecans but a similar taste to walnuts. I actually prefer them now to walnuts, and easily peeled/cracked without the aid of the dreaded nutcrackers!

I also prefer them to walnuts too - just squeeze two of them together in your hand crack them. Yum

They are pecans, but I have noticed that some Cypriots do call them Walnuts.

They are pecans, but Cypriots call them black walnuts, i bought some trees from the government farm and they were labeled as black walnut.
