Does anyone know if Phillipos in coral bay stocks 100/150 watt screw-in bulbs the older type ?
Re: Lightbulbs
No!, not thanks to the EU but thanks to the CO2 that the power stations had to emit to keep them lit. The LED ones consume less than 20% of the electricity that an old incandescent would and they last up to 100 times longer.
Re: Lightbulbs
Isn’t this typical of the EU scaremongering that’s endemic and the reason for most anti-EU sentiment.
Re: Lightbulbs
Bollocks! Brazil and Venezuela started the phase-out in 2005, and the European Union, Switzerland,[1] and Australia[2] started to phase them out in 2009.[3] Likewise, other nations are implementing new energy standards or have scheduled phase-outs: Argentina,[4] and Russia in 2012, and the United States, Canada,[5] Mexico, Malaysia[6] and South Korea in 2014. Re: Lightbulbs
According to an article in The Independent the EU have banned old style bulbs. https://www.independent.co.uk/life-styl ... 16066.html
Re: Lightbulbs
The problem is that not all existing light fittings support the new LED bulbs, so if you want to change then you have to replace the fitting!

Re: Lightbulbs
The fitting is standard but the LED bulb may not work in the existing light fitting!

Re: Lightbulbs
I always seen to have a drawerful of bulbs, none of which ever seens to fit the sockets , or whatever they are called, for the requisite bulb!! Drives me insane
Re: Lightbulbs
It's not against EU law to sell them, it is against EU law to make or import them so any old stock can still be sold.
Re: Lightbulbs
Are most new light fittings in Cyprus Edison Screws (E27) or the smaller E14 screw size rather than bayonet (B22) fittings? Just wondering as I have a few Hue smart lightbulbs that I'll be bringing over and will likely need to get some adapters for some of them.
Re: Lightbulbs
I think that you can get all types. Tower electrical have a special offer on LED bulbs both bayonet and screw fitting. I bought a number of them this morning. Very reasonably priced.
You can also get both daylight and warmlight shades.

Devil, you took my post the wrong way, I was being sarcastic about the fact it was being blamed on the EU.... should have usedDevil wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 2:45 pmBollocks!
