JimX have a proper read of the Cypriot papers and news, plenty of reports of Police admittedly not chasing vehicles but firing shots at them to stop!

Agreed always an issue whether to pursue a suspect vehicle or not but it is very well monitored and you require permission to pursue a suspect vehicle and it will only be given under strict guidelines. (Been there done that)

My daughter just contacted me to say the woman who assaulted the waitress has agreed to pay €1500 damages to the waitress and €700 court costs so has been released. Maybe next time she will stop and think before doing something like this.

I doubt they will have the experience either, the police who do this chasing in the UK are specifically trained and as has been mentioned elsewhere they need permission to do the pursuit. They also need permission to use the "stinger", or to entrap the car they are pursuing and to pursue a car in built up areas. Police in pursuit will normally abandon the cahase voluntarily in built up areas. There are also limits on the cars they use, a PC in an ordinary police car is unable to give chase, even if he/she is specifically trained in pursuit, it has to be the specially souped up off-road cars such as the ' 'scoobies' etc

I doubt very much tha Cyprus has this level of expertise.

However, as has been demonstrated in past news stories, some of Cyprus Police are excellent shots.
