??n Monday police launch an all island seat belt and child seat campaign as part of efforts to stem the bloodshed on the roads.The aim of the campaign, which begins on Monday 12 and end on Sunday 18 November, is to raise awareness among drivers and passengers so that they put on their seat belts on getting into a car....

Why do they have to have these campaigns??? Why are these - and so many other safety checks - not just part of normal police patrols, not that I seem to see many of them around the town.

Its all to do with funding from government and EU for road safety to reduce injuries and deaths.

I would imagine that if they want to they will see many cars with children in and no child seats. Even older youngsters not wearing the seat belts which are a fitting of the car..

Many people, especially some locals seem very ambivalent about road safety in general. I was surprised when I first came how laissez faire they were about children in cars since no effort at all seemed to be made to restrain them.
