MEU1 (sorry!)

Post by Spock »

As a relative newbie, I risk posting something that has been discussed at length.
If so, perhaps someone would point me in the right direction.

I am trying to find out about the MEU1 form.
My wife and I are retired and own a property in Cyprus (as well as the UK).
We spend perhaps 160 days each year in Cyprus, in spells of six or seven weeks at a time.
We have no intention of working.
We see our trips to Cyprus as extended holidays and have no intention of looking for citizenship

So do we need to apply for MEU1?
Do we apply for one each or one for me with my wife as a family member?

TIA

If there is arequirement for you to have them, then you would have to get one each. Me and wife did before we applied for our MEU3s and we now have one of them each.

I suspect you won't require MEU1s, but I'm not an expert, and you will need to get an authoritative answer.
Thanks HIC
I have looked at the government website and downloaded the forms, but can't find anything definitive about whether we need one. I've heard that if we're staying 90 days a year or over then we need one. Also heard that it's 90 days in any one visit.

I guess I'm going to have to go to our local office and find out from them.

I would doubt that the citizens Centre could give you a definitive answer. I would advise contacting the migration department Nicosia for a written response. I would however hazard a guess that it does not apply to you. It is a document registering that you are living in Cyprus for a continuous stay of 90 days or more which you are not. You are simply having regular extended holidays. Contact Either Stalo Yiallourou on the number below or email Elena Hadjigeorgiou on the email address below:

I sent an MEU1 enquiry to that email address back in May and received a reply in 4 days so definitely worth a try.
