A very interesting article today in CMail about the health effect of a good quality olive oil and why there is so much difference....
One fact I knew already is that olive trees don't need watering, (for the sake of more quantity instead quality) as the oil tastes more likely bitter as well when trees are irrigated....

It would have been nice if the article had mentioned where it is possible to buy this oil in Cyprus. Or is it all going abroad?

I saw on the TV the other night that many olive trees in Italy and Spain are infected by the bacteria called 'Xylella fastidiosa', even healthy trees some as old as 2000 years are being ordered to be cut down to help stop the spreading of the bacteria.trevnhil wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 9:23 am Virgin Olive oil is expected to rocket in price.

Very sad especially for the farmers.

Thank you Max. I missed that web address and couldn't read the name on the bottle. If it is only on sale in Nicosia I will have to give it a miss unfortunately. Pat

Re: The super, super healthy olive oil (CMail)
I am using since 1 year the extra virgin olive oil from "King of Olives" as I like the strong taste of it. I wonder If one uses more of this oil than normal to get at least 30-40 % of the healthy phenols from this super, super healthy olive oil?? As King of Olives oil is stocked at Lidl's it is easier for me than to arrange it from the shop in Nicosia....

I only use olive oil for cooking, it's quite expensive here in the UK already, Lord knows what the price will be now the news is out.
