Nature at it's best (pics)

I went out for a trip last week as rain weather was forecast to an area it is better there is or was no rain for a while. Walking around the place something attracted my attention from the distance

as it was dry like a bone and obviously not raining for many month..


I could not believe my eyes



I am soo many years in Cyprus but never found these nice autumn crocuses.



I believe they are on the red list and endemic in Cyprus (crocus veneris)



Anyhow this made my trip worth it...

I am very glad that I did the trip, having torrential rain at my place, it would not be possible to access that area with the flowers now....and perhaps would have flattened them.

Nature is indeed really amazing. Two years ago I collected some flower bulbs that were washed onto a path by heavy rain close to Mavrokolympos dam and planted them in my garden in Cyprus where they flower each spring like the rest of the same kind on the island.

I also took three bulbs to Qatar and planted them in the only irrigated strip of greenery that we have in front of our house and lo and behold they did survive the crazy temperatures here and flower not just once a year but about every three months!

Don't know the name of the plant, but it is very common and the bulb looks just like an onion - that's probably how I got it through customs inspections w/o a problem .

Wonderful pics, do the crocuses live long Max?

As I said in my post, it is the first time in all that years I am living here or visiting Cyprus since 1970, I never have seen this crocus in Autumn.
It could well be also a Colchicum Troodi and not a Crocus veneris, they look very similar though.
I expect that if there is no rain in that area soon, than they will be gone in one weeks time or so...
