Builder

Post by chris&pam »

Some time ago I'm sure I read a thread on a local builder who was recommended by a number of people. But I can't find that thread now. Am sure the builders name was Yiannis. Any clues out there?

Guess no-one knows Mr Yiannis then. Can anyone recommend a builder to do some garden work - rebuild/build stone walls and driveway and construct some wooden fencing please? Thanks

A little word of warning maybe.Who ever you get to do the work it is YOU who has to prove that they are fully licensed, insured and the rest of it.If not it will be YOU who are committing a CRIMINAL offence.Dont make the mistake of saying to the authorities "well I asked them where they legal and they said they was...….good luck.

But, are they right in saying that you will be responsible if they are not?

Is there a specific requirement for builders to be 'licensed and insured'? I ask only because I've never previously heard of this requirement.
HIC,the bottom line is..that it is YOU who is responsible for that little job they are doing for you are registered to do it with the Cyprus authorities.A friend of a friend of ours was doing a tiling job for him when the authorities driving round their estate saw him,,,and pounced. They thoroughly questioned the man doing the tiling AND the owner. As it was a very small and unpaid job and for a friend they went on their way but made it clear in no uncertain terms that if caught again????

The one thing, im very hot on before employing anyone to do decorating/building work for me is, they have public liability insurance, imagine employing someone who set fire to your house, your own insurance might not cover you,,, happened to me, back in the UK where I got a guy to paint my living room, on the side, for cash, (he was on the dole) he fell of his ladder broke his ankle, and his tin of paint, went flying across the room, needing me to replace a carpet and some curtains...the cheeky *********** wanted me to give him a few bob because he wouldn't be able to work....

I guess that as long as you employ a Cypriot there will be do problem Licensed or not.
If you employ a Syri Lankan keep him somewhere out of sight from the road.,
Or working after normal working hours..
I’m thinkilng of the guys who pruned palm trees and keep them looking neat.

Years ago there was a UK police officer who was prosecuted for employing an illegal.

Consequently he lost his UK police post and his UK pension.

No Trev,i was told it was the authorities who had to make sure you had all the necessary to legally carry out your trade. Not the police.

Whys is it getting worse, people are forevery going on about, people not paying their tax's cowboy builders etc .. trucks being used by builders, should have the correct insurance , builders should be registered for tax, social insurance etc, they should have receipts for building materials, and invoices for work done....then when the authorities , do something about clamping down on illegals, people still moan...they can't win.. Good on the authorities I say,
