It was the drop in the price of oil that caused the economy to collapse and also the USA sanctions because Venezuala dared to vote in a Socialist government. Venezuala is a one trick pony in that the whole economy is based on oil revenue and no matter who was in power would have ended up in the same position. Venezuala is a typical South American country in that a minute part of the population own 99% of the wealth. There is an interesting article on the BBC Web Site that gives an in depth explanation.
When the price of oil fell thousands of workers in the UK and millions across the world were laid off and many are still sat at home; nothing to do with Socialism. You have to get away from the mantra; Conservatives Good, Socialists BAD.
Just to clarify, I'm not a great fan of Corbyn, especially his views on Brexit.

I was wondering where you got this brain-wave from about Corbyn and Venezuela... it all seemed to come out of the blue...

Of course the Conservative Party conference is coming up, and we need some good deflective news about the communists taking over ... but from whence did this brainwave come??
ah ha!!!!

THE SUN!!! Of course!! You read the Sun.

CORBYN'S UTOPIA How people in the Socialist ‘utopia’ of Venezuela
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/7380472/v ... on-corbyn/

Well - "reading" is probably overstating the "paper". I always remember Ronnie Barker, God bless him, with his line in the newsagents' sketch about wanting "The Sun, and a paper to read". ))
You really buy the Sun???
It's Rupert Murdoch targetting the brain dead.
Are you serious??

P.S. I don't like Corbyn either. But his advisor side-kick Milne is far more dangerous. Adoration of Putin.

I have to say, every time I hear talk of Venezuela, I am reminded of this clip, which can't be bad.

Talking about Corbyn and the recent media furore about anti-semitism, I would point out that the conservative party has not yet adopted the definition of anti-semitism as set out by the IHRA(?). In fact only a handful of countries have officially done so.

And there would be no greater incentive for me to vote labour than Hudswell's continued sniping against them.
