Travel Insurance

Not old enough to register for the public health care here means,
It seems I can't get travel insurance unless registered for six months...
I have private health care ,but of course you don't register ,just turn up at any hospital you choose....
Any one else got over this problem?

We had been living in Cyprus longer than 6 months before we travelled anywhere but we always used StaySure who have policies for expats. It may help...

Fraid not, Staysure have clause that states you must be registered with a doctor for 6 months.
I queried it with them but they confirmed...

Even with private healthcare you can register with a doctor. There are plenty of doctors outside the General Hospital. In fact that is your best option. Once you do that it will soon be 6 months and you can then get travel insurance... It is sensible to register with a doctor if you are planning to live here.

Not had to take out travel insurance for about three years, so is this 'registration with a doctor for 6 months' a new requirement? I'm not registered with any particular doctor. Can't remember how many years ago that I did see one, come to that!

I have annual travel insurance through Status Insurance, I've never been asked for registration with a doctor.

Unfortunately, A lot of these Insurance company's only mention certain things, when you have put a claim in, its always in the small print, which 99% of us never read.

I have used staysure in past . This is what their site says , “ Although you must be registered with a GP so that we can consult and confirm your case in the event of a claim “ .

I am a pensioner in the Cyprus health system , I have no particular doctor , but the hospital does have a file on me .

I will have to check it out before the next time I need travel insurance .

I would have thought that counted as being registered with a GP.. I would imagine that your file has the name of a GP you have used..

The point I'm trying to get across is that , having private health care means you can go to any hospital for treatment. An insurance company cannot trace your history... because you may have used several for different ailments.
Trust me Insurance Companies will wriggle out of paying any claim if they can...

The travel insurance co wants to know the name of your GP, firstly to check if you have any pre existing health conditions and secondly, if you have a health issue or accident while away, it will send your doctors/Hospital reports direct to your GP, as they would in the UK.

For example purposes. I go to Dr Mala as my GP, but if I need specialist report or an operation she would reccommend the best consultant for the condition.
That to me makes sense,

We too use and are registered with Dr Mala. And from experience we know that she will refer you to the best specialist for you particular ailment when necessary

I'll need to find a new GP when we land in Cyprus in less than a couple of months. I'll be retired but am to young for an S1/State Pension so will need to be private.

Many thanks - always good to start out with providers that others have had success with. Having relocated countries once before I know how difficult it is to get good reliable service providers. I've also been keeping an eye on Dom's Directory as it develops as there seems to be a lot of good providers that others have used there as well.
