Travel Ins for North does not inc. medical cover

Post by kansas »

We visit Northern Cyprus several times a year. Each year we have taken out our travel insurance with a well known Paphos company and each year we have asked if medical cover is included for the North. The reply has always been "Yes".

However, a couple of days ago we visited an alternative insurance agent and asked the same question, and were advised that no travel insurance policy covers medical emergencies in the North if you are resident in Cyprus. This is presumably because they regard all of Cyprus as being one country under international law, so you would be expected to make your way to a crossing point and use your normal medical providers, General hospital etc in the South, in the event of an illness or accident, or pay privately in the North. We have asked our current provider to confirm this, and they have just done so.

Many of you may be aware of this but it came as a surprise to us and we've lived here for many years.
