A Place in the Sun: Winter Sun - Cyprus

Post by Mrblobby »

Today’s program was in the Paphos area . Good to spot places we know . Channel 4 , 16.00 UK time .

And of course , “A PLACE IN THE SUN has been a staple on Channel 4 for almost two decades, but could Brexit spell the end for the long-running show? “ ;)

should be another Cyprus one coming up as about 6 months ago I had to sign a filming permission form on behalf of our Committee for a viewing of an apartment on the complex where ours is down in Tala. Unless they film more properties than they show in the televised show, or it’s already been on.

Checking my diary, the one on our complex was filmed in early May, so perhaps later this series or a subsequent series.

Ive stopped watching these shows now, In my opinion most of the people were just time wasters out for a free holiday.

To me it seemed a lack lustre programme. One of the problems for the buyers was that ‘Johnnie’ didn’t seem to be listening to what the couple in question wanted to find. A child friendly, 3 bed apartment with enough outside outside space for a table chairs and a sunlounger...
Some nice shots of the Paphos area though..

It would have been nice if someone had whispered in Johnnie's ear that it's pronounced Talla (as in Inshalla) not Tar-Lar. :x

Funny how Inshallah is now part of the English language isn't it? Reminds of this clip...

Morning.

I think some do use this type of programming as a free holiday, not all though as we have in Tala area a couple who were on a BBC property show, they did move out here maybe you may remember? a nice couple from Yorkshire, so not always freeloader's.

This is that couple. below screenshot

I do not think Jonny finds properties my guess is it would be a researcher's part of the program staff, but I agree they often get what the couples ask for incorrectly.

I have been watching that program for many years and for sure it helped me with the move out here and indeed start a forum for movers and shifters to Cy, that was sixteen years ago!

This UTube clip has our friend Nigel Howerth who has helped many buy property out here.

How time flies. :)

I do not think the UK leaving the eurozone will kill shows like this, it had no effect here when Cyprus was not in the EU at the time of our move out here, let's all hope this potentially unsettling time for many ex-pats does not affect us all too badly.
