European Obestity Levels

Post by boycott »

A UN report shows that 2 out of 3 of Europeans are overweight and one in 4 of us are obese, and that is due to lack of excerise, poor diet and heavy drinking!

The European average of obesity is 23% with the UK coming 3rd with 27.8% and Cyprus (Mid table at 21.8%), (Top was Turkey at 31.1% and bottom was Tajikistan at 14.2%)

I find it rather worrying and very disappointing that in this modern day and age that people cannot control their weight and seem not to be bothered about the illness that they are most likely bringing onto themselves by excess eating/drinking and lack of excerise and that it seems to be easier to wait till they are ill then go to the Doctor and get a pill for the rest of their life to resolve the associated disease/illness!

I'm sorry, but your statement is a bit too sweeping, when you consider the numbers of people who are under- or over-weight through no fault of their own because of physical problems, mental problems or are unable to feed themselves, for any reason.

No Mr Devil, the greater majority of people can if they so wish control their weight especially in Europe.

Mr. Average as a guideline should have an intake of around 2500 calories (Mrs. average is around 2000 calories) so if you take more and you do not use them (ie excerise) you will gain weight.

HIC, when was the last time you saw the Police going round nicking people (unless it was a hate crime), it seems most of the coppers you do see have fitness levels issues anyway!

In the UK part of the problem is lack of parks etc. Kids have nowhere to play. In my old local area, there were triumphant reports in the press because the older generation had successfully taken down some camps that "vandals" had built in local woodland. Some pompous idiot from the Surrey Heathland Society or whatever they are called was saying that the camp builders had damaged a couple of trees too. And they were making noise.

It should be pointed out that the same Heathland Society regularly obliterate woodland so their precious heathland can grow again.

They probably have members who post those god-awful "life was so much better if you were a child of the fifties" posts that do the round in social media. Well, one reason it might have been better was because the older generation didn't destroy all the play areas back in those days.
