Any gardening expert?
Re: Any gardening expert?
It depends where it is in your garden, but we had a huge aloe vera on our front. We kept it wet and scraped the soil away for weeks! We then tied a rope around it and attached to tow bar, slowly pulled away, and it came up, no problems! Otherwise a professional with the big guns!

A large copper nail does the job. It will take some time but will work...Lincoln wrote: ↑Tue Sep 11, 2018 8:59 am Hope some one can give me solid advice. I have a shrub that I want KILL roots and all. I do not want to use a systemic weed killer on as I want to re plant. It is too difficult to get at to dig up. So what can I pour/place around the base to destroy the plant. Thanks in advance.

I moved into a property in the UK and planted a leylandii hedge which I planned to grow to about 3-4 feet as an outside border for the front garden. Hadn't even finished planting before my neighbour came out and told me he would put salt on the roots if it interrupted his view! Replied that if anything happened to the hedge then he would be the first to be investigated.

Cut the shrub down close to the soil and then cover the ground with a transparent sheet (plastic) weighing down all around to prevent it being blown away. The heat from the sun will kill any bugs, spores or pests in the soil and also prevent any new growth from the shrubs roots as the excessive heat will have killed it off.
When you're ready to plant just take off the sheet and water the soil.
If you search google for soil solarisztion there should be plenty of helpful videos and tips.
