We rented an apartment for a week and were told by the owner we could have a late check out as he didn`t have abooking for the folloeing week. He also said if he got a booking for the day we were leaving he would let us know which was fair enough.

However, at 8.45 the evening before we we due to leave we recieved a text saying he had taken a booking, if he had let us know sooner we could have made alternative arragements. we appereciate that he was within his rights to take the booking, but surely he didn`t have to leave it so late to tell us.

He did warn you, that if he had a booking you would have to leave, cant see what he has done wrong

You need to find a hotel and see if you can buy a day pass to store your luggage until your flight. I don't think the landlord has been unreasonable at all. They said they would let you if they could. Turns out they can't. The only real alternative would be never to say you could.

We were told we could check out at 4 pm Wednesday unless a booking came in and he would let us know. Fair enough, as I said before. Our gripe was he didn`t text us until 20.45 on the Tuesday.

As Dominic said , if he`d not said anything to us, we could have stayed in our soon to be sold house, it was wasn`t worth going back there for 17 hours.

Yes, it happens. A friend of mine had the same problem with a flat which she rents for holidays, but her tennants were very fortunate as a friend of hers let them leave their luggage in his little flat for the day, until their time to leave for the airport. I think that they were able to use the pool at his complex.
But this was a one off sort if arrangement.

last year I picked up my nephew from Larnaca airport in the evening, he went on line and booked an air b&b , phoned a taxi up and an hour later he met the owner in limassol who gave him the keys, just showing that the owners could get a booking anytime.
