I remember that accident. What an appallingly lenient sentence.

Zero alcohol reading.

Excessive speed maybe, to do this damage!

According to the link you posted MM:
___

The Russian driver was speeding in a luxury car on the wrong side of the road in Kissonergas when he plowed into Charilaos, who was driving a moped, said police at the time. The defendant was overtaking another car, according to local Paphos news reports. He tested negative for alcohol.
___

There was a fatal accident on the B7 the other day too. A head on collision. The way some people overtake on blind corners, it is hardly surprising.

I agree, the sentence should be much higher.

the maximum sentence for manslaughter by reckless driving is just four years

Are the judges/courts tied to this?

Do you have any basis for making such a statement? Is there any evidence that British expat sentencing is harsher than Russian, Chinese, or Cypriot sentencing?

If the maximum sentence possible was only 4 years, then a 2 year sentence is not that lenient, given the fact that there was no drink or drugs involved etc.

I am not saying the sentence was fair. Far from it. The maximum needs ramping up considerably. But you get similar sentencing in the UK (can't speak for other countries). Consistently, human life does not seem to equate to much when it comes to RTA sentences.

Been watching 'Police Interceptors' on TV & am frankly appalled at the incredibly light sentences (usually a fine) for some of the most heinous driving!

I live in Kissonerga and can testify to excessive speed by so many many drivers. I do wonder if the number of speed humps in the village frustrates some drivers that once over them, they go crazy & put their foot down on the gas pedal!!
