A spotlight before my eyes
A spotlight before my eyes
I've just noticed that a spotlight has appeared slightly off-centre on my LG television picture. I've not had any electronic equipment installed recently and have just disconnected and re-connected my infomir mag box but the light is still there.
Any ideas please?
Thanks

What do you mean by a spotlight?

Re: A spotlight before my eyes
It's as though there is a spotlight shining over my shoulder onto the screen. Not too large, but a bright light, nevertheless. I does not move but follows the picture on the screen which gives it the impression it is moving.
Just turned the TV off at the wall for 10 minutes, it might work.
I suppose in the old days it would be a "tube" failing.
Thanks

Switching off did not work. It's like a full moon.

Re: A spotlight before my eyes
If you google it, it seems to be a backlight failure / fault.. It does not seem like something cheap to repair.
Maybe time for a new TV.

Re: A spotlight before my eyes
Alan hello.
Sounds like failed (dead) pixels or maybe your Backlight, , it could be fixed but if an older LG then maybe replace the set, your choice of course.
Have a look at this. It mentions your bright spotlight.

Good luck with the fix.

I've got a small white spot on the screen. Do I take it in to be looked at c €250 or do I just wait and see what happens and if fatal, buy a new TV then of course being €250 out of pocket?
The TV is 3 1/2 years old.
Regards
Alan

Alan.
I know what I would do, buy a new Samsung
, If you take the time to look at some of those UTube posts I'm sure there may be a fix, give them a try before you spend.

Re: A spotlight before my eyes
Lloyd good morning. I just knew you would chirp up on my comment!
I find that I wouldn't risk Samsungs again rather a silly comment, as I have used the best TV's on the market for many years now. Check UTube on the best TV's, it is not a Sony.
All TV's these days are usually very reliable but Pixels or backlights can fail on any make, My first concern in buying new TV (not that I have needed to in a few years) is picture quality, without doubt, Samsung usually comes out as the best regarding this, reliability is not usually a concern with this manufacturer, you were unlucky it seems.
Any TV could be a problem, nature of the beast's but all of my four Samsungs have been without problems, but the Sony I had needed a service engineer, it was repaired and I sold it on, it is down to luck I guess, I also have a large LG TV but the picture quality is not a patch on the Sammies, this is a fact, this has nothing to do with televisions, but I knew a chap bought a brand new expensive Mercedes here in Pafos, it stopped on him, the repair cost hundreds of Euro's to the dealership, point is nothing is usually is a 100% reliable, fingers crossed my TV's will continue to be perfect in all ways.
By the way, do you use your 3D? now, I put my specs away never to see the TV again, shame as 3D is impressive in certain circumstances.
I hope Alan can fix his problem, in that link, there are several possible fixes one may work for him.

Re: A spotlight before my eyes
Hello Lloyd.
Really? this thread is trying to help Alan fix his LG problem, not what we think of a TV brand, and on reliability, well the only TV make I had problems with was just that one, Sony, but I considered myself very unlucky as all TV's these days are reliable normally, all my more recent purchases have been all totally reliable, they are all Samsungs, and a better quality picture to go with it, you stick to your Sony and I will definitely stay with my Samsungs. fair enough? So I do not agree with you either
My Tefal cooker ended up in a long-ago boot sale near the airport, I like our deep oil fryer, now that does cook properly especial fish and the odd potato chip, the Tefal was rubbish, sorry.
Phone cameras, are good because we always have your phone with you, the latest Phone I use is again a Samsung but not one that was a silly price, the picture taking abilities are good enough for me these days especially as I only store photos online or print off the occasional shot, I also use the movie mode, that is also very good in HD, as you may know.
I still have my two Canon SLRs (digital) but I must get them out of the attic (yes we have one) and sell them on, never to be used by me again, I am just not strong enough to carry all those lens and flash guns.....
Reading a review on the latest Samsung the S9 it has excellent night picture taking capabilities, but at nearly a grand it is too rich for me unfortunately
